Big shout out to maleopold15 over at Sports Thoughts for his help in the help of creating a new series. He reports on the NBA, MLB, and the NFL. We are each helping each other out on our new fantasy series, mine for the NBA, and his for the NFL. Go check out the full blog at Sports Thoughts.
This is a weekly series that will be published every Sunday, previewing who will be the best fantasy players of the next week. Maleopold15 and I will select our ideal fantasy starting fives heading into the week.
Last Week
Last week, Maleopold selected Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Paul George, Anthony Davis, and Karl-Anthony Towns who averaged a combined: 24.8 Points, 10.4 Rebounds, 4.6 Assists, 1.7 Steals, and 1.5 Blocks.
I selected Stephen Curry, James Harden, Lebron James, Anthony Davis, and Andre Drummond who averaged a combined: 25.6 Points, 10.8 Rebounds, 5.2 Assists, 2.2 Steals, and 0.9 Blocks.
I won four out of the five statistical categories, so I won week twenty.
Me-6, Maleopold-8
Point Guard
ST: Russell Westbrook
I picked Damian Lillard last week, and I am extremely happy with the results. I was this close to going with him again, but I can only pass up the triple-double machine for so long. Westbrook it is.
Shooting Guard
ST: James Harden
Small Forward
ST: Kevin Durant
Me: Lebron James
For the third week in the row, Lebron James will be my small forward. He fits perfectly in this lineup, helping out Booker and Harden who will both lack in assists. While Harden is the MVP favorite, Lebron is still the best player in the NBA, no questions asked.
Power Forward
ST: Anthony Davis
I’ll be the first to admit I thought Davis’s production was going to go down once Cousins tore his Achilles. I was afraid defenses would zone in on him and shut down the whole Pelicans game plan. Instead, Davis has stepped up big time and been a one-man wrecking crew in the low post. Keep it up, big fella.
Center
ST: Andre Drummond
There’s a few good candidates for this position, but in the end I went with Drummond because of the favorable schedule this week. I like his matchups down low against the Raptors and Bulls, and I’m excited to see his insane rebound average continue to climb
Me: Anthony Davis
Psyche! You really thought I was leaving Anthony Davis out of my lineup? Two words: No Chance. The hottest player in the world at the moment should look to continue to dominate next week as he takes on two teams aiming to lose. Davis is ready to dethrone James Harden, and whether he not he actually achieves that, he’s still a great fantasy pick all the way til the end of the year.
