Ahhhh; The offseason is officially underway. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN (of course), D’Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov have been traded to the Brooklyn Nets for Brook Lopez and the 27th pick in the draft in an attempt to clear cap space for Paul George.
I’ve already made my case on Russell earlier this year. I believe he is the most overrated player in the NBA, and should already be considered a draft bust. Personally, I think this trade was a complete steal for the Lakers for that very reason. Don’t get me wrong; I guarantee that Russell is going to score, score, and score some more in Brooklyn, but he won’t make a winning impact on that team. First at Ohio State, then with the Lakers, now with Brooklyn, D’Angelo Russell is not a winning player.
To think that they traded that garbage along with one of the worst contracts in NBA history to the Nets for one of the best post-up players in the league along with another first round pick is amazing.
If the Lakers can actually pull this off: drafting Lonzo Ball, trading a couple picks and Jordan Clarkson for Paul George, resigning Brook Lopez, this could be looked back on as the move that started it all, especially if D’Angelo Russell still hasn’t been to the playoffs. This was an amazing move from Magic, and the Lakers are going to be scary in a couple years.
